At stake is safety on their narrow road where 29 children live

Safety Urged by 30+ Montclair Vernon Rd. Residents

Posted

This small narrow road is home to 29 children. The road leads to the dog park, making it a very popular spot for parking.

Many residents showed up at the Montclair Council Meeting to urge a change in parking laws. Dr. Renee Baskerville, fourth ward council member, took the time to share this important information, writing:

"About 30 or more residents from Mt. Vernon Rd attended Montclair's TPAC (Traffic Parking Advisory Committee) meeting last night to ask that Mt. Vernon Road have parking for "RESIDENT's ONLY". This very narrow street is unique, according to the residents, because of it's proximity to the entrance for the Doggie Park in Essex County Brookdale Park.

"The dead end street ends in Brookdale Park. The residents stated that from about 6:30AM until park closing, their street is inundated with reckless individuals who speed down their street rushing to walk their dogs and then rush off to continue their day, often times leaving a trail of doggie poop being on their lawns, or for those who actually put the poop into a bag, they often times by-pass the appropriate receptacles and drop the bags on their block. Many residents are having a hard time cultivating green, lush lawns because of the abundance of dog urine in their lawns. Their major concern is SAFETY....SAFETY....SAFETY! They have about 29 children (one or more on the way (smile) on this block, who must navigate the traffic and find ways to cross the street between the many, often carelessly parked cars. They believe that apple maps Apple Maps is contributing to their very dangerous situation, because when you google the dog park that particular app directs individuals to Mt. Vernon Road. The residents feel as though their quality of life has become less than it should be and now want....RESIDENT ONLY PARKING ON MT. VERNON Rd. One of the residents Reminded the TPAC about the decision to have COLLEGE AVE. Many suggestions were offered from TPAC but residents made it clear that their safety concerns are paramount and that think the RESIDENT ONLY PARKING is the way to go. I am sharing this in an unofficial capacity as someone who attended the TPAC."

On a separate note, TPAC is LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS.
