20 pick-up trucks, SUV’s and vans are loaded to the brim with four tons of bulk foodstuffs, hundreds of turkeys and holiday meals by Essex County sheriff’s officers at emergency management headquarters in West Orange for delivery on Tuesday, November 22nd as part of the sheriff’s Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Needy and Homeless.

“This project is a labor of love for the members of our department,” Sheriff Fontoura said. “This is our opportunity to share with our less fortunate neighbors.”

The sheriff’s Thanksgiving convoy made stops at scores of Essex County soup kitchens, food pantries, social service agencies, homeless shelters, houses of worship and schools to insure the availability of Thanksgiving meals and to stock the food shelves for the coming winter months.
